Hello,I'm Maverick Joseph or MAVDEC. I'm a 19 y/o college art student, working towards my BFA in Game Design and development.I've been doing art for as early as I can remember. I was obsessed with pretty much any fandom you threw at me when I was little, never seen without my sketchbook in hand that contained hundreds of doodles of video game characters, OCs, YouTubers... While it started as a pass-time, I ended up selling my art for the first time professionally at GalaxyCon MN in 2019. This opportunity was what led me to taking my art more serious.Upon getting my first iPad when I turned 13, I started to draw non-stop, doing character studies, anatomy practices, and (baby's first) concept art. In 2020, I completed on average 2 full pieces a day. I attended a college preparatory high school, taking as many art courses as I could in hopes of setting myself up for success in college.In 2022, I started to gain an interest in game design. My boyfriend and I had been creating characters together since we first met, and we spontaneously decided to attempt to put them into a game. Thus started my deep dive into the world of game development. While we started small, by 2024 my boyfriend and I were running a small team of roughly 15 amateur game designers, managing the development of a simple RPG. While the team did end up splitting off as we all got closer to graduating high school, I take a lot of what I learned from both developing and leading the team and apply it to the things I'm completing now.My freshman year of college was all prep work for applying to the BFA program. I took various foundational classes, combining it into a portfolio and submitting it in late February. Game Design and Development is known to be one of the most competitive programs to get into at my university, however with both my experience and a little luck on my side, I was accepted.Next semester, I will be starting my first GDD courses, gaining the foundations needed to finally (finally finally finally after so long...) release In Paracosm, my long term passion project.
